Etta Projects does not give handouts; we build capacity and knowledge that empowers people to discover new opportunities.
In the rural communities where Etta Projects implements programs, women’s education is very low and they have very little opportunity to generate income. Etta Projects has responded to this need by creating small micro-financing programs directed towards poor women in rural communities. These programs are based on the premise that a small loan can give underserved women a unique opportunity to transcend the limitations of poverty not through handouts, but by starting their own business.
Women participants are integrated into the process from beginning to end. They create their own business plan, develop their own budgets, decide their own management structure, and control their own finances. Etta Projects supports these groups by offering experiential business and financial management classes, trainings directed towards a particular skill, and capacity-building in group formation and problem resolution. The groups are responsible for reimbursement to the project for any loans made towards materials to start the business. All funding that is collected from micro financing groups is used to generate new programs.
