Etta Projects recognizes that for a project to be sustainable we need to build the capacity of the people that live and work in a community. In our 2009 School Garden Project, Etta Projects’ joined the implementation of a school garden with interactive, participatory health & hygiene sessions for students in rural communities.
We are expanding this program in 2010 by incorporating a teacher development training component. Eleven schools will not only harvest their own gardens but the project will bring local teachers to the forefront of a process that encourages students and their families to transform their school and their community into healthy, sanitary places to live. In addition, the local water cooperative is working alongside Etta Projects to guarantee sanitation improvements in all participating schools.
