School Garden Pilot - Betania

Agriculture skills. Improved nutrition. Positive shifts in hygiene and behavior. Small business management skills.  Income generation. These are just a number of the outcomes of Etta Project’s School Garden Project. Throughout 2009, Etta Projects connected with a small school in the village of Betania, a rural Guarani community. We utilized bottom-up, participatory practices to develop an integrated approach to improve the nutrition, hygiene, and sanitation of the students and the community at large.

The 2009 pilot School Garden Project evolved into a 2010 Healthy School Project. Some of the most successful pieces of the garden project were coupled with teacher development training and improvements in sanitation infrastructure to form what is today’s Healthy School. Take a look at this pilot project and then see our larger Healthy School Project that was developed from this small pilot.
